Polygamy

When many people think of the Mormon church the first thing that comes to their mind is plural marriage or polygamy, which was part of the church from 1890 to 1904 but is no longer part of the church or practised by any of the member that belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  (See more about ending of Polygamy)
We do not try to hide the fact that we as a church practised polygamy, we know that it was commanded by God that the people at that time, for whatever reason, need to practised it. There is a lot of reasons that polygamy could have been need at that time. Whether it be economical or the fact that there was a lot of widows, but those are not the things that I hold to as the reason for it.  The reason that the church began to practise polygamy in my mind is the fact that the Lord commanded it. There is a scripture in the Book of Mormon the may help us to understand this point a little better it is in (Jacob chapter 2 27-30)  "27Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any aman among you have save it be bone cwife; and concubines he shall have none; 28For I, the Lord God, delight in the achastity of women. And bwhoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts. 29Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or acursed be the land for their sakes. 30For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up aseed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things." To me this scripture help to see that a man should one have one wife, unless the lord commands other different, so there was a time that we did it then the lord said that it was no longer needed.
The Mormon church was not the first time that gods people practised plural marriage there are time through out the bible that plural marriage was practised.  When it come to the concern of polygamy and whether or not it was right before God or commanded by God. There is only one question that we need to ask yourself and that is whether or not Joesph Smith was a prophet of God, because if he was then nothing else matters, because if he was a Prophet then it was inspired of God. It is left to us to turn to our Father in Heaven and pray to know if Joseph Smith was a prophet and if the church that he set up is truly the kingdom of God on the earth today. I know that he was called by God to be a prophet to lead us and guide us in these days to help us to become closer to our Savior Jesus Christ, and the way that I know this is through praying to my Heavenly Father and asking for guidance. which is the same thing that you can do to know the truth.

Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon is another amazing witness that our Heavenly Father has given us to help us to become closer to him. However it is very misunderstood by most people in the world today, they don't fully understand where it came from or what its purpose is, which is sad because it true is a great volume of scripture that God has given to us to bring us closer to Him.
The Book of Mormon is a record of a ancient people, it starts out in Jerusalem around the time of six hundred year before Christ just before the fall of Jerusalem, with a man by the name of Lehi. Who was a Prophet trying to cry repentance to the people. Lehi was warned by the lord that he need to take his family and leave, because wicked people were trying to take his life. The Book of Mormon includes their journey as they traveled through the wildness by the borders of the Red Sea and how they sailed on a ship to the land which is today known as the Americas, and also contains their record of their time spend on the Americas, (promised land), as it is called in the Book of Mormon until around the year four hundred A.D.  The Book of Mormon contains many great story of faith and people following the lord, and it is similar to the Bible in the fact that it contains the write of Prophet as they received revelation from the Lord, giving it many of the same teaching that are found in the Bible, but they are written in different ways which help us to gain a greater understanding of the teachings. The record of the Book of Mormon ends as I stated before around the year of four hundred A.D., because the people at that time were very wick and sought to destroy the record so a man by the name of Moroni was told by the Lord to go and hide the plates in the earth and when the time was right the Lord would bring them forth again.
That is where the Prophet Joesph Smith came into the story he was the man that the Lord used to bring the record of this ancient people forth. He did not write the record call the Book of Mormon, but he translated the record which at the time was in a form of ancient Egyptian into English.
The Book of Mormon is a amazing record that the lord has give to us to help us through this life, and to bring us closer to our Savior. It is also important to remember however that we in no way discount the bible, it is also scripture and we hold it dear to our hearts because it contains the record of Christ's life here upon the earth and his teaching while he was here, and many other record through the history of the earth.  We hold these two records hand in hand as our Heavenly Father would have it, as it is stated in (Ezekiel 37:16-17). That they may become one in our hand in helping us to learn more about out Savior's teachings and the life that he lived.

We are Christian

The first and most important thing to know about Mormon is to know that we are Christian.  Many people in the world today have false ideas that Mormons are not Christian. The reason behind these ideas, I'm not sure, but I can assure you that we are and I would love to help clear up any concerns about that.
One thing that people do not understand is why we do not have a cross on our church.  The cross can be a great reminder of the death of our Savior and it helps many people to pull  their thoughts closer to him when they see it which is what makes it so powerful and important to most Christian faiths. In the Mormon faith we do not feel that it is necessary to worship or to have a cross because we try to focus more on the the life that he lived and the fact that he was resurrected  and is still alive and active in our life today. Yes we are very grateful for the fact that he gave his life for us and we believe strongly that he did and we know that without him we would not be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father.  We just believe that it is not necessary to worship the weapon or tool that was used to kill him. We do not look down upon those who chose to worship the cross in any way we simple choose not to do so, but I assure you that we still very much so worship and follow our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Other claims to why we are not Christian is the fact that we have a book called the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon, as it states, is another testament of Jesus Christ and it is further understanding that our Heavenly Father has given us. It is very similar to the Bible and we use it hand in hand with the King James version of the Bible to help us to become closer to our Savior and to learn more of him.  So the Book of Mormon is not to replace the Bible in any way but to help us become closer to Christ.
There are many ideas out there similar to these that try to convince you that Mormons are not Christian and try to take away what we hold dear to our hearts and that is our believe in Christ. I know that Christ is my Savior and it is through him that I can return to live with God.  I'm so thankful for all that he has done for me and I love Him dearly for it.
